So the other day I downloaded a copy of the Sublime Text 3 beta and so far I have to say that I am impressed. There is a noticeable improvement to the speed at which it takes to go from launching the app to it’s ready state. I’d say the difference between launching v2 vs. v3 is about 10-15 seconds shorter. This is probably due to the fact that it’s now a native 64 bit app. I also like the fact that they’ve upgraded from Python 2.6 to Python 3.3.

The performance of loading large text files is much improved and they made the find/replace fields automatically resize which is a nice feature to have when working with multi-line regular expressions.

The only gripe I have so far is that almost all of the plugins that I use in v2 are not yet compatible with v3. However this is to be expected since v3 is still in beta and most of the plugin developers haven’t upgraded yet.

All in all, I’m looking forward to getting a copy of the final version when it’s released. I’ll be eagerly awaiting updates to all of my favorite plugins.
